Boris Yakobson PhD, DVM
Veterinarian/rabies/diseases of bees

Boris Yakobson is a veterinarian with more than 25 years experience of veterinary epidemiology research and practical application. He has particular expertise in rabies, being Head of the Rabies Laboratory at Kimron Veterinary Institute and Project Manager of the National Oral Rabies Vaccination Programme in Israel.

Between 2010 and 2012 Dr Yakobson was Team Leader in Kosovo of the EU-funded project “Control and/or eradication of animal diseases”. This involved epidemiological data collection and evaluation of the CSF and rabies situation in Kosovo as well as the design and implementation of oral vaccination plans for rabies in foxes and for CSF vaccination in domestic pigs. Other aspects included the implementation of public awareness campaigns and monitoring the efficacy of vaccination campaigns in wildlife.

Dr Yakobson is an authority on the major diseases and pests of the honey bee with over 25 years of research experience in their control. Research interests have included the biological control of a range of organisms such as the Varroa mite and A. apis. He has also undertaken numerous international consultancies to Asia and Europe related to the development of beekeeping and improving honey bee health.
